Defy aging and the forces of gravity with a fat transfer to the face
As women get older, the lines and wrinkles around their faces are often caused by loss of volume (fat) and skin cells that lose collagen and elasticity, resulting in thinner skin. In the past, the only solution was to perform a traditional facelift with invasive surgery to pull the skin tighter around the face. Now state-of-the-art tools provide other less invasive options with less down time. A fat transfer to the face:
- Adds volume, filling out wrinkles and hollow areas around the eyes, cheeks, mouth and jawline that were full in younger years
- Thickens the overlying skin giving a more youthful appearance
Alan Greenberg, M.D., a cosmetic surgeon and board-certified obgyn, has focused on working with women in Frisco, Plano and Dallas through all stages of their lives, and he has witnessed the transformations caused by aging. He and his team at North Texas Cosmetic Surgery can help women turn back the clock and look younger with this minimally invasive office procedure.
Why have a fat transfer to the face instead of fillers?
Facial rejuvenation on mature women often requires a relatively large amount of volume to achieve the desired effect. By utilizing fat cells from another part of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, patients can access as much as needed, and there is less chance of developing an allergic reaction to a foreign substance.
Fat transfers differ from synthetic, prepackaged dermal fillers, which are ideal for adjustments on small lines and are quick to use. However, these fillers have a high cost per unit, and the results do not last as long.
An added benefit of fat transfer to the face is that technology allows the high-quality cells to remain viable during the process. Fat cells are rich in stem cells and improve skin tone and texture within a few months. Most patients report a noticeable “brightness” to their complexion after the fat transfer procedure.
VASERlipo® uses ultrasound technology to achieve results
This new liposuction technology uses ultrasound energy to break apart fat while preserving other tissues. A special saline solution is injected into the fatty area to expand the tissue. Next, ultrasound waves separate the fat cells from other tissue for easy removal. The cells undergo a quick process and are injected into the face. The VASERlipo system allows a high level of control for subtle contouring.
The beauty of facial rejuvenation using a fat transfer to the face is that it can be performed in the doctor’s office under local or tumescent anesthesia. Afterward, we advise patients to rest for 12 hours and avoid strenuous activity for two to three weeks. You can wear makeup again in about a week.
