As you age, your skin starts to lose its elasticity, making it harder to snap back into place. This can leave you with wrinkles around your face and can cause your breasts to droop or sag. Find out here how a breast lift can address sagging breasts.

As you age, your breasts start to change. It’s a natural part of life. Your breasts begin to lose firmness and elasticity, meaning that your skin no longer snaps into place like it used to. In addition, factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, and significant changes in weight can all cause your breasts to droop or sag.

If you’ve begun to feel self-conscious about your sagging breasts, a breast lift might be right for you. This cosmetic surgery can restore your breasts and give them a youthful and perky look once again.

Alan Greenberg, MD, and the rest of our team offer breast lifts at North Texas Cosmetic Surgery in Frisco, Texas, to help you feel confident and beautiful in your own skin.

In this blog, we review more about this aesthetic procedure, including how it works and what to expect when you see us for a breast lift.

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift — medically known as a mastopexy — is a surgical procedure that can rejuvenate your breasts by changing their shape and appearance. Depending on what your goals are a breast lift can include:

  • Lifting your breasts higher onto your chest
  • Making your breasts more symmetrical
  • Reducing the size of your areolas
  • Removing excess skin
  • Giving your breast a more rounded appearance
  • Tightening breast tissue to better support nipples

In addition, if your nipples are pointing downward, a breast lift can reposition them to give your breasts a less saggy appearance.

A breast lift alone can’t change the size of your breast. So, if you’d like your breasts to be larger or smaller, you can pair your breast lift with a breast reduction or breast augmentation.

How to prepare for a breast lift

Before you can get a breast lift, Dr. Greenberg sits down with you for a consultation. He goes over your medical history and reviews any family history of breast cancer and also discusses what medications you’re taking, if any.

He then talks to you about your goals and about what exactly you want from a breast lift before examining your breasts and going over all potential risks and side effects of the surgery.

What to expect when you get a breast lift

On the day of your breast lift, we provide you with a hospital gown before having you lie back on a surgical table. We administer Twilight Sedation anesthesia to keep you comfortable for the entirety of the procedure.

Dr. Greenberg makes incisions around your areola and then cuts downward and out. He starts by moving tissue around and removing excess fat to achieve the breast shape you want.

After the surgery is complete, Dr. Greenberg stitches the surgical site, applies bandages, and gives you a surgical bra to wear while your breasts heal.

You’ll get to go home the same day of your surgery, and you’ll notice the results immediately; however, it may take up to two weeks for you to recover fully.
