Her decision to have a tummy tuck resulted in more confidence

Salima, a wife, mother and math teacher, was not contemplating having a tummy tuck or any type of surgery when she met Alan Greenberg MD. In fact, she was accompanying her husband on his follow-up visit to our Frisco cosmetic surgeon.

Her spouse had reached a plateau after losing a lot of weight. Previously, Dr. Greenberg performed a Vaser liposuction procedure to remove stubborn fat, but it did not address the loose, drooping skin. Now he wanted to remove the excess skin and a little more fat with a lipoabdominoplasty, which is a modern tummy tuck that doesn’t require general anesthesia.

Salima had also lost weight. Although it wasn’t something that she thought about much, she also had loose skin and diet-resistant fat. The mother of two teenage boys had seen her weight fluctuate and skin stretch over the years. She had a casual conversation with Dr. Greenberg and learned he also could address her concerns with a lipoabdominoplasty. He described the process without pressuring Salima, and her husband encouraged her to have it done if she was interested.

Finding peace with the decision to have a tummy tuck

“Culturally, I was raised to not look at myself in the mirror,” Salima says, who is Muslim. “I was taught that wanting to look good or wear revealing clothes was a sign of vanity and selfishness. So, this procedure made me think,” she says, explaining that she did not pursue the lipoabdominoplasty to look better in a swimsuit. “I still wouldn’t wear a bikini or bathing suit with a skirt unless I was just with my husband.”

Only two weeks after she learned about the tummy tuck, Salima was ready to have the surgery with “awake” anesthesia. She felt good about the decision and comfortable with our Frisco cosmetic surgeon. She went home the same day. Her husband and sons were helpful during the two weeks of recovery. Now her clothes fit better, and she feels more motivated to exercise.

“I’ve become a more confident individual and a better teacher,” Salima says. “This was a huge boost to my self-confidence as a Muslim woman and something I am glad I was able to do for me. And I was able to find the perfect surgeon who understood me culturally.”

A secret success

Although Salima hasn’t told her friends about the lipoabdominoplasty procedure, she is happy to share her experience with others. Contact our Frisco cosmetic surgeon to find out how individuals in Frisco, Plano, Dallas and North Texas are feeling better about themselves.
